The End of 2011 has come and gone! It has been over a year since the movie debuted and we have had some lovely HTTYD shorts to tie us over in the meantime as we wait for the sequel
As a group we still hope to provide members with stuff to do regarding art and writing, and creating in general in regards to the movie, that's what fandom is all about!
In 2012 look for some more contests, big and little, some more group drawing activities, be on the lookout for the bi-monthly art features, the ever-popular upcoming
March Madness Polls (we still need contenders!), as well as some new stuff planned by the group administrators to entertain you and give you chances to be involved
Right now we'd just like to say thanks to our current admins for the work they've put in over the year:
ch4rmsShariIsLikeWHOAitsbrellaInuyashaWarriorSimtiffhalftoneDogmaniac as well as admins that have stepped down but were still a part of the year:
penxpaperHyperfineAveku-chan-KataangSunset1989 We also would like to thank our wonderful ARTISTS, WRITERS, COSPLAYERS, CRAFTERS, and in general all our MEMBERS who have commented, donated, nominated, voted, judged, replied, and supported this group and it's contributors. Thank you to everyone because a lot of what makes this group great is the participation involved
By the way, in case you missed it we did make our goal in points, say hello to another year of organized folders, polls, and more!
Without further Ado, we present the End of the Year Awards:
CATEGORY: COSPLAY AND CRAFT WINNERS
Cosplayer of the Year: kh2kidThis guy has many many carefully detailed cosplays. He has the setting and the outfit detail and the poses in the mannerisms of the characters. Mostly a Hiccup cosplayer as far as HTTYD is concerned, he has done some of the best Tuffnut cosplays on DA as well. He has a passion and a talent for creating the scene and we're so very glad he has shared it with us over the last year.

:thumb260561204:
Huck-Finn-Forever does a lot of cosplaying but she grabbed attention of the group with her stunning Astrid Cosplays. She has the concerned frown of Astrid and knows how to pose. This particular Cosplay has a great lighting and accurate stance of the female fighter. Everything meshes well.
Crafter of the Year: CarmendeeDragons :thumb201791180:
Carmendee is amazing, simply put. If you haven't seen her Toothless pendants you need to skedaddle your keister over to her page and go browsing for some tangible adorable. She even sells her creations on
Etsy so you can have an exquisitely crafted and precious Toothless pendant hanging from your neck.
Craft of the Year: Toothless head Progress by
MonoyashaWhile a work in progress may not be your first choice for a "Best Of" award, there is no denying this piece is an attention grabber. The attention to detail is amazing even in in-progress form, with those amazingly well crafted eyes you could easily act out one of the most re-created scenes of the movie and actually feel you were in it yourself. If there were any doubt of how amazing this suit would turn out, direct your attention here to the completed suit, which was unfortunately not in the group at the time of voting but has been
added with great pride ^.^
CATEGORY: FANFICTION
Best Featured Fiction: 'HItchups' by
AvannaK If you've been a part of the HTTYD fandom in the past year, you have probably heard of Hitchups, the epic 45 chapter saga that details the life of Hiccup if he chose to leave when he was planning to. It's a story that contains a lot and focuses on the developing friendship of a boy and his dragon. This story has inspired many fans to write their own fanfiction and AvannaK is a very detailed writer who knows how to portray the characters believably in a hypothetical universe as they grow up.
Best One-Shot: Old Souls by
ch4rms A one-shot that contains a future, the end of the future between Hiccup and Astrid as they reflect on better times. She writes it carefully so you can feel the age the characters have been through, their emotions, and their nostalgia. You must have a hard heart indeed to keep from feeling just a little bit sad.
Best Multi-Chaptered Fan-fic: Vestige By
ContraltissimoAlthough it has yet to be finished, this fiction is proving to rivet its readers with the fine detail and writing of the story of the vikings as they go hunting and things go wrong. It had gained a big following and the readers are begging for more!
Author of the Year: BintaviviBintavivi has written a number of HTTYD-related works in the past year. She wrote 'Footprints' and it's sequel 'Beyond the realms' which spreads the characters further into the world. Readers must be patient to see what comes next for their favorite characters. She also has done many one-shots either of her own device or for request prizes, or trades that all share the same edge of authorship as her longer tales. Don't forget to check out her art that consigns with her stories as well!

"There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are messengers of overwhelming grief...and unspeakable love." (Washington Irving)

The seagulls flew high above the cold waters of the Norse sea, beating their wings ever so regularly and resuming their peaceful gliding. The whale's road was never the same, changing from minute to minute, and the waves invariably danced beyond the horizon. Sometimes, they were small and playful, and the seagulls would dive easily through them to catch their daily preys. And sometimes, the waves morphed into gigantic and deadly liquid walls and rare were the creatures who dared to challenge them in their powerful waltz.
That day, the young seagulls took pleasure in performing aerobatics until they reached the curtain of mist their parents had taught the
HTTYD: Footprints Part 1Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III felt drops of sweat travelling down his face. The combination of the heat of the fire and the concentration he needed when working at the forge made his now damp hair stick on his forehead. The blacksmith apprentice could not remember the last time Gobber and he had had that much work to deal with, no matter how hard he tried. Together, they had to handle the ever-increasing demands of all Vikings in Berk who had befriended a dragon of their own and needed custom-made saddles, complete riding gears – depending on their respective dragons' breed and the riders themselves - and all the material that was considered necessary for dragon-training. Repairs were often needed, and on top of that, well, Vikings remained Vikings and still wanted their weapons, shields and armours to be taken care of.
Hiccup even had had to make himself a particularly strict schedule in order to satisfy as many people as possible and be able to see the tasks he had been given th
HTTYD: Reconquest. For the life of her, Astrid couldn't remember the last time she'd felt this…lonely. It definitely wasn't the kind of merciless and terrible loneliness Hiccup used to endure for years. No. It was the bitter and sarcastic loneliness one could feel when something highly improbable and extremely unpleasant happened and when the only thought that came to mind seemed to be an existential question.
Why me?
Astrid sighed angrily for the umpteenth time that day, cursing the Gods under her breath as she tried at all costs to avoid looking at Snotlout – and failing epically- who was currently busy trying to make it clear that he really could carry out two hundred push-ups without breaking a sweat. A shirtless Snotlout, mind you. She glanced at him and couldn't prevent her face from contorting in a sour grimace. While she was pretty certain some other girls would be impressed by the mountain of muscles the dark-haired teenage Viking displayed unabashedly, she sure as

It was just so clever and humorous. It's why Hiccup and Astrid barely have any alone time Together. It's fun and the style is whimsical as well! Many people thought this was one of the best single strip HTTYD comics.
Best Multi-Paged Comic: Ireth and Vespera Fable by
yamilink:thumb172255324:
It is a feat to create well-rounded OC in a fandom and through Yamilink's ongoing Comic, members already have opened their arms to two. Her style is impeccable, her story line always is leaving readers wanting more and we thank her for not giving up on it over the year. She also does a wonderful job of pacing and drawing the teen Vikings as fathomable adult-versions of themselves. Her dialogue is witty and characterized, her comic is a joy and we highly suggest to take a look.

Best HTTYD Original Fan Character: Ireth from the Ireth and Vespera Fable, created by
yamilink :thumb200510892:
Ireth is a very wonderful constructed original character to interact with the HTTYD world. A bit odd for her interest in alchemy, she does her best to fit in despite her fear of big dragons. Her mother has passed on, and her father is at sea so she keeps busy collecting herbs and experimenting. You can see her featured in the comic mentioned above, she does a lot and the comic helps her character grow as well endear her to us.
